UTOPYS brings together researchers across eight Dutch knowledge institutions, working on the mathematical, technical, control, economic and regulatory dimensions of the future power grid. PhD and postdoc positions connected to the programme are opened by the individual partner institutions rather than through a single central portal. Below you'll find direct links to the current vacancies at each partner. Check back regularly, as new positions open throughout the programme.
Design the large-scale 380/220 kV transmission backbone that anchors the UTOPYS Library, and act as technical lead for integrating the models contributed by partner institutions into one working system.

Build and validate detailed EMT models of high-voltage components, substations and protection systems, from transformers and HVDC terminals to the breakers and relays that make faults and cascading outages reproducible in real time on the UTOPYS RTDS cluster.

Develop plug-and-play EMT reference models of customer-side assets and the microgrids they form, from PV, batteries, EV charging and heat pumps to grid-forming and grid-following converters. The models will capture weak-grid and islanded operation and black start, and will become part of the UTOPYS Library.
